Machine translation has come a long way.
The key is staying aware of the current limitations to translation technology and AI, as well as the limitations of human translators when it comes to translating high volumes at affordable rates.
While it is far from perfect, machine translation can be used for some of the heavy lifting, pre-translating large chunks of predictable text so that our human translators can polish it in record time and at a much lower cost to you, in what we call Machine + Human Hybrid Translation.
Even for translation projects involving purely human translation, we use several technologies to streamline the translation process, from project management to quality assurance.
Our Translation Management System (TMS)
For an efficient and secure workflow, we use SmartCat. SmartCat is a secure, cloud-based Translation Management System that streamlines the translation process by allowing all team members to work simultaneously and access Translation Memory (stored units of previously-approved translations). This TMS also allows us to more efficiently manage extremely large files, dozens of formats, or even large numbers of very short text strings.

Machine Translation at Meridian Linguistics
We use several machine translation technologies, choosing the right one for your language pairs, including Systrans (a secure desktop-based software that does NOT send data to third parties). We then use our human post-editors to search for inaccuracies and to smooth out target language fluency. While we do not recommend this method for more creative or nuanced translation work (e.g. advertising or subtitling) it is a very cost-effective solution for high-volume tasks (e.g. legal discovery or summaries).
