SWEDISH VOICE DATA COLLECTION FOR A GERMAN TOY COMPANY

Meridian Linguistics was asked to collect 75 five-minute recordings from equal parts men, women, and children – native Swedish speakers only. With a very tight deadline (less than a week!)
While Meridian doesn’t have any managers based in Sweden, we are lucky to have strong international networks of willing translation vendors. With their help, we collected all 75 voices (plus backups) to specification and had them edited and formatted by the client’s deadline. Lucky for us, Swedes live all over the world: these recordings were sent in from Sweden, South Korea, Thailand, the US, Spain, and Germany, and our managers worked across three timezones to recruit, collect, assess, and deliver these recordings on a rolling basis.
These recordings will be used by the client to develop voice-recognition software so that their toy can recognize the commands of Swedish children.
ARABIC TO ENGLISH TRANSLATION FOR MMUSEUMM
Mmuseumm is a “modern natural history museum dedicated to the curation and exhibition of contemporary artifacts that illustrate and humanize the complexities of the modern world”. It has been featured in NYT T Magazine and the Atlantic. Meridian Linguistics was contracted to manage the transcription and translation of Arabic-language interviews conducted in Aleppo, Syria, for an upcoming exhibit (Spring 2016).

For uncommon language pairs, many companies resort to relay translation, in which one language is translated into a second, and then into a third. As you might imagine, this can lead to some unexpected translations. Meridian Linguistics was able to mobilize our strong international network to find linguists bilingual in Spanish and Chinese as well as Spanish and Korean for an ongoing website translation for a major Spanish clothing brand (10,000+ words translated and edited to date) thus avoiding the need for relay.
